UPDATE: World's Oldest Person Elizabeth Bolden Dies- 12/11/06: It is with sad news that we report that Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bolden, age 116, of Memphis, TN, has passed away at Mid-South Health and Rehabilitation Center nursing home. She died at about 2 a.m. EST, Monday morning. Read more here.

Elizabeth Bolden, Oldest Living Person in the World

Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Jones) Bolden, born August 15th, 1890 in Somerville, TN, is oldest living person in the world at age 116. Up until Sunday, August 27, 2006, she was the second oldest in the world and the oldest in the United States. Maria Esther de Capovilla of QUITO, Ecuador was considered the world's oldest person, died from complications from pneumonia. 

Guinness World Records officially named 116-year-old Elizabeth Bolden now residing in a Memphis, TN nursing home, as the oldest living American on June 23rd, 2005. 

Bolden,  is the stepgrandmother of former Memphis police director James Bolden.

Her family requests that the public not try to contact her or visit her, as they are concerned about her well being.
